When the ribbon was cut during the grand opening celebration on April 24th, Marine Corp Air Station New River’s hangar officially became the Department of Defense’s largest hangar. The new 257,980 SF hangar and office building is a quarter of a mile long, 8 stories tall at it’s highest point and will house six MV-22B Osprey Squadrons. For this project, we provided structural engineering to The Haskell Company. Wayne Mangum, MME President and Project Manager for the project, recalls his initial reaction to the size of the project. “We’ve designed large buildings and we’ve designed hangars, but designing a 250,000 SF hangar was somewhat of a challenge.
